Lisbon City Breaks 2024/2025

Getting to, from and around Lisbon

Lisbon is just a 2hr and 40min flight from the UK with both scheduled and low-cost airlines offering flights from across the UK.

Getting from the airport into the city is best done by bus or taxi. A bus ticket costs only €1.35, whilst you can expect to pay around €15 for a taxi into Lisbon.

Lisbon is a relatively small city, so ideal for exploring on foot, however, buses and trams are also a great option.

Things to do in Lisbon

Tours are a great way to explore during a city break in Lisbon and there are a number of interesting and alternative tours on offer, including Segways and GPS guided GoCar tours.

Be sure to check out the city's Belem Tower, a 500 year old fortress that once protected Lisbon and is now a World Heritage site, while the Jeronimos Monastery, also a UNESCO World Heritage monument, was built to commemorate Vasco De Gama's journey to India.

One thing Lisbon is fantastic for is its beautiful view points. Because of its location, the city is set along the banks of the Tagus River, where the views from the numerous terraces on the hills are stunning. The Miradouro Das Portas Do Sol is one of the more popular with tourists, however as you wander through the narrow streets, you will no doubt discover your own favourite view, framed by the narrow streets.

Another great reason to visit Lisbon is the number of beautiful beaches that scatter the Lisbon coastline. Head west out of the city towards Cascais and you'll come across Blue Flag beaches and with the Atlantic swell are ideal for surfing fanatics.

Where to stay in Lisbon

One of the great things about Lisbon is that it is a compact city, so no matter where you stay, you'll have easy access to the numerous sights across Lisbon.

Stay in Cascais for more of a beach/resort type break, just a short train ride into the city, whilst hotels in the Downtown area provide the perfect location for exploring the city by foot.
