Things to do in Liverpool

Having become European Capital of Culture in 2008, Liverpool underwent a great deal of regeneration across the city and particularly down by the waterfront, with modern, new buildings mixing with the old docks warehouses and Liver Building.

Around the old docks, there are a variety of museums that delve deep into the local history including the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Tate Liverpool and the Beatles Story museum where interactive activities help teach the history of the iconic band. Also in the area is the Liverpool Museum which uncovers the history of this great city.

Where to stay in Liverpool

As mentioned, staying near on for the stations can often be a good idea if you want to leave your bag on the morning of check-out and wander the city without having to take them with you, simply picking them up on the way back.

Alternatively, hotels near Liverpool Waterfront and Albert Dock, offer an alternative location, but within 10 minutes walking distance to the city centre. The docks are a quieter area close to various museums and attractions including the Tate Liverpool, The Beatles Story museum, the Liver building and the exhibition centre. A range of hotels are scattered along the waterfront varying in budgets.

The city centre, around the likes of Liverpool One, the Met Quarter and Ropewalks, also offers a huge range of accommodation options. From five star luxury apartments like the Posh Pads at Casartelli, to low cost options like Travelodges and Premier Inns, plus a load of cool and quirkly places to stay in between.

Try the 4-star Titanic Hotel located in the docks area of Liverpool for a trendy warehouse stay with gorgeous spa access. Another very cool hotel in Liverpool is the Hotel Indigo, which focuses on the cult and history of Liverpool. From the drum lampshades above the reception desk to the comfy beds, you'll love a stay here.
