If you’ve been working hard recently and fancy treating yourself with a girlfriend, there’s no better way to enjoy a short break than a spa break.
If you have a car, or know someone that does, a spa break can be much easier as they are more often than not set in stunning countryside locations. Fear not though, if you have to take public transport, there are still many spas and spa hotels that you can take advantage of. I splashed out a little bit on this spa break by enjoying two nights at the hotel instead of just one, although it is a midweek stay, so good news for those who don’t work a 9-5 job.
Our journey starts ont he outskirts of London in Watford, taking us right up the M1 past Nottingham, my friend, driver and trusty sidekick uses her satnav for only the second time, which itself requires a spa break to get over the stress. The drive takes us up to Edwinstowe, just outside of Mansfield where we park up and take in the stunning setting of the Thorsby Hall Hotel and Spa. This Grade I listed building sits amongst 100 acres of gardens with its grand architechture and beautiful features and is the perfect place to enjoy a weekend getaway.
The break can be booked through Wahanda, one of the leading spa break and treatment website around. You can also buy a gift voucher for this break too, so if you are in someone’s bad books, or there’s a birthday coming up, it makes the perfect present. My favourite thing about the break is that it includes so much. This particular break includes a free 60 minute massage or facial, a Rhassoul treatment, Thermal experience, plus breakfast and dinner, and of course access to all the spa facilities. Having already booked our treatments in advance, we settled in for the afternoon and got straight down to the pool. There are a number of classes that you can also take part in, including Yoga and Zumba, as well as other activities such as archery, garden tours and woodland walks.
You can upgrade your room to a Signature or Historic room for a more special feel but all rooms have TV, lounge chairs, ensuite facilities and wifi is also free in public areas (not that you will want to make contact with the outside world.) The Pierrepoint restaurant is a buffet style restaurant that is included in the break offer. Two other restaurants, The Blue Room and Fenocchis are also available to dine in but at an additional supplement. With tasty dinners from Italian, Asian and British inspired dishes though, you’ll no doubt be more than happy with what’s on offer in the Pierrepoint restaurant. The evening entertainment on offer is very relaxed with shows, dancing, comedy and much more regularly on. The hotel also organises ghost hunts for those who like a bit more of a thrill.
The treatments are the perfect way to get away from it all with additional treatments available such as an aromatherapy cave, foot spas, hydrotherapy pool, tropical experience showers and much more. Thursday morning arrives and we’re feeling relaxed and ready to take on the M1 again. At least this time we just have to keep going straight down to the M25. Needless to say, the satnav was not turned on for the entire trip home.
Our spa break was booked through Wahanda who had a 50% discount offer. For more details, click here.
