Getting to, from and around New York

Three airports serve New York, JFK, La Guardia and Newark. Each have more than adequate transport links into the city, even for those on a budget.

Getting about New York is very easy with the subway being the best option. Get to grips with the subway system and maps as it's easy to jump on an express service that misses out certain stops.

Day and week passes can also be bought to save money for both the subway and bus networks.

Things to do in New York

It would certainly be hard to get bored in New York, especially with so many things to do on the doorstep of your hotel. You hardly have to go far at all to keep yourself busy. So what are the 'must-dos' when in NYC?

Whilst the Empire State Building is magnificent, when you're that high up with photo opportunities of the city, you really want it in the picture. Instead, head to the top of the Rockefeller Center where you can enjoy views of Manhattan with the Empire State Building included.

Head to the theatre on Broadway and enjoy one of the incredible musicals on offer, before heading up to Times Square to admire the world famous bright lights.

Where to stay in New York

Most people visiting New York City will want to stay in the heart of Manhattan, close to all the shopping, attractions and transport links and if you can, especially if it's your first visit, finding a hotel in central Manhattan is a good idea.

Sometimes, however, being flexible on where you stay can lead to some great discounts. Areas around Broadway aren't often cheap but still worth looking at. Try quieter areas of the city or even look outside of the island on Brooklyn for great hotel rates.
