Getting to, from and around Dubai

Dubai is served by three airports, including Abu Dhabi airport, about an hour's drive from the south of Dubai. Public transport isn't anywhere near as developed as cities like London or New York, however, there are still options available.

Taxis can be very cheap and is a good way around the city, even if you are on a budget, however traffic along the main Sheikh Zayed highway that runs from north to south through Dubai can be pretty hectic at peak times. The monorail offers fast and efficient transport as well, however, the lines are somewhat limited.

Things to do in Dubai

Visiting Dubai for the beaches? The area of Jumeirah Beach in Dubai is perfect for enjoying the city's beaches and restaurant/bar culture. This area is popular with many expats so you can expect to see hotel bars and restaurants busy on a Friday for the infamous Dubai Friday Brunch, which gives fellow residents the opportunity to relax, unwind and splurge on food and drink with friends.

The waterparks in Dubai are also a must-do. Wild Wadi Waterpark at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Aquaventure at the Atlantis Hotel on the Palm Jumeirah are the two main ones, each offering a day of fun in the sun. Rides range from children's gentle activities to sheer drop rides so you won't get bored. If you decide to stay at one of these hotels, you'll also get free entry to that particular waterpark.

Where to stay in Dubai

It really does depend on why you are visiting Dubai as to where you should stay.

Those travelling for business meetings will ideally want to be close to the offices their meetings are in.

On the other hand, those coming for the shopping, beaches, and other attractions have plenty of areas to choose from. Hotels in Jumeirah Beach are a great option for those arriving to enjoy the sunshine. Hotels on the Palm Jumeirah are similar, however, a bit further away from the sights of Dubai.

Head to the Dubai Mall to be right in the heart of the main tourist attractions, including the Burj Khalifa. Whichever you choose, there are plenty of cheap hotels in Dubai to choose from.
