Ionian Islands

Located in the west of Greece, the Ionian Islands incorporate popular destinations like Corfu, Paxos, Lefkas, Kefalonia and Zakynthos. These can be quicker to get to (shorter flight times) but offer just as much fun, sun, culture and the Greek holiday vibe as other popular islands in Greece.

North Aegean Islands

Of the areas in Greece, the North Aegean Islands are some of the least connected to the United Kingdom with direct flights to just Skiathos, Samos and Lesvos, making it a haven for escaping. From historical sites and traditional villages to the various European NATURA 2000 sites, and bustling Skiathos Town, if you love to combine history, culture and sunshine, this could be the area for you.

South Aegean Islands

The South Aegean Islands are made up of the Cyclades and Dodecanese containing the popular destinations of Mykonos, Santorini and Paros. While Mykonos has become known as the party island and Santorini as the expensive island, both have plenty else to offer, from quiet villages on Mykonos, to cheaper accommodation on Santorini.

Crete

Being the largest Greek island, Crete offers so much to see and do for British holidaymakers. You'll fly into either Chania in the west or Heraklion in the east, and from here you'll be able to head out to popular holiday resorts like Lassithi and the Rethymnon area. Many villas in Greece offer private pools and range from modern, multistory holiday homes, to traditional stone villas.

Mainland Greece

Although you won't find a typical villa in Athens, the Greek capital city, here you'll find plenty of privately owned apartments that can be rented out via the likes of Booking.com or Airbnb, perfect for learning more about the ancient sites and city life. If it's a typical beach holiday on the mainland, head up to places like Thessaloniki and Halkidiki in the north or the Peloponnese on the south coast, where the nearest airport is Kalamata.

Holiday Types

While you might think Greek villa holidays are all similar, there are plenty of variations depending on your group size and what you're after. For example, for those who like peace and quiet, a traditional home in hillside settings might be better, whereas if you love water sports and enjoying afternoon drinks on the promenade, being by the coast might be a much more suitable option.

Villas With Pools

In the Greek heat, you'll no doubt want a private pool within your complex. Even better if it's a gated pool for safety and security if you have young children running around. Some properties will also have land too which can be great when you're travelling as a large group or family. To save money, you may find complexes with shared pools.

There are some absolutely incredible villas in Greece. Many might be out of your price range, but if you're celebrating a special occasion, or your a group of friends so can split the cost, a luxury villa can be an absolute treat. These can provide facilities like stunning sea views, infinity pools, games rooms, orchards, luxurious finishes and so much more.

When To Rent A Villa In Greece

Holidays in Greece can be pricier during high season. You'll often find higher prices in July and August and during school holidays, where as the lower winter season will be much cheaper, when flights from the United Kingdom are fewer and the weather is much cooler.

The shoulder seasons of Spring and Autumn can be an ideal time to rent villas in Greece. The weather can still be warm, outside of school holidays is much quieter and demand is lower so prices can be less. This can also mean that some of the larger Greek villas are empty and cheaper because fewer families are travelling during this time.
