Being able to enjoy a city break is very rate when you're on a budget, so how about a cheap city break in Marrakech?
Hunting through the web, we were able to find a three night city break in Marrakech for £378 per person, including flight and on a half-board basis with Kuoni for those who are a little more price conscious.
Departing on a Friday in June, and booking six months in advance, this city break at the three-star Golden Tulip Farah in Marrakech is the perfect way to enjoy a spare weekend and explore somewhere completely new. Set in beautiful gardens, the hotel offers a large swimming pool, fitness room retaurant and poolside bar.
Just a 10 minute walk to the Old Town and you'll be greeted by the hustle and bustle of the Medina's snake charmers, vibrant spice stands, and delicious wafts of Moroccan cuisine from the nearby restaurants. The main square, the Jemaa el-Fnaa, truly comes alive at night, full of both tourists and locals enjoying the atmosphere. Restaurants around the square can be a bit pricey because of their location, many of which offer wonderful views over the hustle and bustle. Head into the backstreets though, and you'll enjoy a quieter and more local dining experience.
A number of bars across the city also have beautiful views, including the Terrasse des Epices, a rooftop space offering food and drinks, although with a slightly premium price tag. It's definitely worth the trip if you can afford it, but it's very easy to get lost amongst the backstreets, great for the souks and stalls that offer a range of goodies, from spices and Moroccan dishes to Fez hats and local wares. Haggling is a must in Marrakech so be sure to get your bargaining hat on and only pay what you think it is worth.
Of course, it's the sunshine that many come here for and a weekend break in the sun is definitely on the cards when you live in the UK. Flights are included in the £378 price tag, flying from London Gatwick airport with British Airways and unlike many cheap flights, are at reasonable times too. Airport transfers in Morocco are also included in the price but remember that this was available six months in advance so planning your holiday ahead of time is always a good idea.
