Travelling To And Around Portugal

Travelling To And Around Portugal

With three main international airports on the mainland (Porto, Faro and Lisbon), plus airports in Funchal, Madeira and the Azores, there are plenty of flights between the UK and Portugal.

The country has a decent train network but by far one of the best ways to explore the country is by hire car. This can give you the freedom to head into old towns and villages, to quiet sandy beaches, or up into the hills for a day of hiking.

In the regions, there are local buses and a few trains, however, they aren't always that frequent. In some instances it might be better to organise a private or shared coach transfer, especially if you're in areas like the Algarve.

Weather In Portugal

The weather in Portugal will depend on where and when you go. In summer, all areas can be stunning, with temperatures regularly reaching into the 30s during July and August. While it may still be sunny, winter months can get pretty chilly, especially in the north and when you've got the strong sea winds on the coastline. Many still choose Portugal to spend their winter as it's still warmer than the UK.

There is also the option to upgrade your room, suite or villa when booking too. Whether you just want that little extra space or a balcony with a beautiful sea view. There are even swim up rooms in Spain too, and adding on extras to the price is always possible. You can even organise a private car transfer from the airport instead of a coach transfer. Keep an eye out for the hotels with spas too. Blissful treatments and hydrotherapy circuits are the best way to wind down after a hard day of sunbathing by the pool.
