Barcelona - How To Get Away On A Budget

How To Get Away For Less Than £200pp

The key to finding great holidays for less than £200 is flexibility and be sure to ask friends and family for tips and tricks too.

You may want to go on a 5-star weekend break in Paris or a week's all-inclusive holiday in Tenerife in the school holidays, but if you can be flexible with dates and destinations you will be able to find similar trips for under £200.

The peak school holiday season can be notoriously expensive when it comes to booking a holiday. Airlines push up their prices, as do hotels, and availability decreases, and ultimately the cost of a family holiday rises. We hunt around for school holiday deals, however having the ability to travel during the off-peak days and periods can help save some serious cash. Try midweek departures out of the school holidays and you'll be sure to find a good deal or two.

Destination is also an important factor when trying to get your holiday under the £200 mark. Destinations such as Turkey and Tunisia have some incredible offers for a beach break in the sun. And with a range of hotels available from 2 to 5-star, and various board basis' on offer, a beach holiday doesn't have to break the bank.

Generally speaking, booking your flight and hotel together can bring about some good discounts, however, if you're planning on flying with a low cost airline or two, it's also worth checking the airline's website to 1) see whether flights on dates either side of your planned holiday maybe cheaper and 2) book directly, allowing you to avoid any additional fees. It's always work looking around when you're trying to save money.

All-inclusive holidays under £200 can be pretty rare. You'll probably need to reduce down your length of stay to enjoy an all inclusive hotel or resort, spending just a few days in your chosen destination, rather than a week.

City Breaks To Paris

Whether flying or taking the Eurostar, Paris is a quick and easy option for a city break. There are plenty of cheap hotels too, including budget friendly chains like Ibis and F1 hotels. Another great beach holiday destination is Majorca. The airport is a short drive from the city of Palma which is another perfect beach and city destination, or you can head out to one of the beach resorts like Cala Millor or Magaluf for a cheap holiday in the sunshine.

Algarve, Portugal

Particularly during the low season, The Algarve is a really good destination for a budget break. Benidorm - Summer Holidays Under £200pp

Summer Holidays Under £200pp

The Summer school holidays are notorious for higher prices and busy resorts, especially if you're flying from a regional airport where there aren't as many flights each week. And while you might need to be a little more restricted, you may still be able to find a great deal under 200 pounds even in July or August.

Popular resorts in Spain like the Costa Brava, Costa Blanca and Costa Del Sol, are likely to have some of the lowest holiday prices, along with the Algarve in Portugal. And don't forget the islands too. Ibiza, Menorca and Majorca usually have some cheap holidays, but you might be pushed to get anything for £199 or less per person in the Canary Island during the peak summer months.

With high prices, you might be better suited to a UK staycation. Caravan holidays under £200 can provide just as much fun in the UK sun as travelling abroad, and you get to skip the airport queues and delays. Upgrade to larger lodges or sea views and discover a new part of the country that you've not visited before.

Caravan Holidays Under £200

If you prefer to stay in the UK, you could even grab yourself a family caravan holiday for less than £200 per family! Less than £50 per person. Bear in mind you should book early to avoid disappointment, and they will be self catering holidays, so you'll need to keep in mind that food will cost extra. Other extras may also include entertainment passes but this depends on the holiday park.

Booking Your Holiday

Whatever your holiday looks like, always try and book with an ABTA or ATOL protected provider for your financial protection. Brands like TUI, On The Beach, and Jet2holidays can provide this. With deal websites like Dealchecker and Ice Lolly Holidays, make sure the provider you end up booking with (it won't be directly with those two brands), also have a level of protection.

Free Child Places

Free child place holidays under £200pp may be possible, but are rare. Be flexible, travel during low season and keep an eye out for deals at all the big tour operators. You'll probably need to look at shorter breaks like 3 night holidays to get the lowest prices.
