Getting To And Around Borovets

Flying into Sofia is the easy way to start your holiday. From the airport the road transfer to resort is usually around 90 minutes depending on traffic and weather. If you book a package your transfer is normally included which keeps things simple. Independent travellers can pre book a shared or private transfer for smooth doorstep service.

Once in resort you can walk to most places. The gondola and main nursery areas sit close to the centre and many hotels are only a short stroll away. Taxis are available if you prefer not to walk and most hotels offer shuttle runs to the lifts at busy times.

UK Tour Operators

Packages with Crystal Ski and Heidi are popular with flights, accommodation and transfers all wrapped up. You can also find deals with other UK specialists who focus on great value and beginner friendly tuition. Look out for bundle offers that include lift pass, ski or board hire and lessons which can save you money.

Holiday Types

First Time Skiing

Borovets is a lovely choice for your first turns. Friendly English speaking instructors keep things fun and the nursery areas are well set out. Progress from the beginner zones to long easy blues where confidence can grow day by day.

Families

Short transfers, gentle slopes and good value hotels make life easy for parents. Many properties have family rooms and pools and you can pre book child lessons and equipment so you spend less time queueing and more time on the snow.

All Inclusive And Half Board

If you want to keep an eye on the budget choose half board or an all inclusive package. Evening meals are sorted and you can focus on the fun bits. Drinks and snacks in resort are well priced compared to many Alpine spots which helps the holiday fund go further.

Short Breaks

Fancy a quick fix. With the short flight and easy transfer a three or four night escape works well. Arrive, pick up skis and get straight on the mountain the next morning.

Things To Do In Borovets

Skiing And Snowboarding

The resort has over fifty kilometres of marked runs across three main areas with tree lined slopes that are kind to visibility when the snow is falling. Intermediates can cruise all day and there are a few steeper pitches for a little challenge. Snowmaking supports the natural snowfall to keep the pistes in good shape through the season.

Lessons And Guiding

You can book group lessons or private tuition for all levels. New skiers can join beginner packages that include lessons, lift pass and equipment. If you already ride confidently ask about improver groups or guiding for a tour of the best runs.

Apres And Evening Fun

The vibe is friendly and relaxed. Enjoy a drink near the base area then wander to a cosy tavern for hearty Bulgarian dishes. Night tobogganing and floodlit skiing are available on selected evenings during peak weeks which is great fun for families and groups.

Day Trips

Fancy a change of scene. Sofia is within easy reach for a cultural day out. You can also visit the Rila Monastery on a guided excursion when the roads are clear.

When To Go

The season typically runs from December into March with the busiest weeks at Christmas New Year and February half term. January and February bring the coldest days and often the best snow. March can be a joy with longer afternoons and a relaxed feel on the terraces.

Lift Pass And Hire

Money Saving Tips

Look for mid week departures outside school holidays for the best value. Choose half board to reduce resort spend, but self catering to drop the initial holiday price. Share lessons with friends to keep costs down while still improving your technique.
