Getting Around Berlin

Berlin is currently served by two airports, Berlin Tegel and Berlin Schoenefeld airports. Both have transport links to the city with the majority of low-cost airlines using Schoenefeld airport.

One of the many great things about Berlin is it's 24 hour underground system. The 'U-bahn' as it's often referred serves much of the city while the overground trains, the 'S-bahn' covers area that the U-bahn doesn't run to.

Buses are also frequent in the city, ideal for shorter journeys. Day and multi-day passes can be bought to save money if you are going to use public transport a lot during your stay.

Things To Do In Berlin

No matter where your hotel in Berlin is, the city's extensive transport system makes it easy to get around. Be sure to visit the main tourist attractions such as the Fernsehturm, Brandenburg Gate and Check Point Charlie, one of the key crossing points between East and West Berlin. The Check Point Charlie museum is incredibly interesting, highlighting how the crossing was used, as well as how people were smuggled across the border.

For those looking for history, the Jewish Museum in the city centre and Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp located to the north of the city are somber reminders of the past. On the other hand, Berlin is well known for it's nightlife. Numerous quirky bars and clubs line the streets in areas like Oranienburger Strasse and the Ku'damm.

Where To Stay In Berlin

Cheap hotels in Berlin are certainly not difficult to come by. No matter where your hotel, getting around is easy, especially with the 24 hour underground services.

Try and stay as centrally as possible if you are short on time, however staying out in areas such as Tegel or Rummelsburg often can offer cheaper hotels.

Hotels in areas around Pottsdamer Platz or Charlottenburg can be both inexpensive and in a great location. Hotels are also scattered about the city, so for those on a small budget, cheap accommodation can easily be found.
