As one of my favourite short breaks in the UK, the Cotswolds are a picturesque area, perfect for country walks and getting away from the daily grind. As a range of hills that spans 787 square miles, there's plenty of accommodation to suit your budget, whether it's a cheap bed & breakfast of a luxury country retreat.
For those limited to price, The Royalist Hotel, located in the village of Stow-on-the-Wold offers modern rooms for £60 per night on a bed and breakfast basis. With a restaurant and bar, The Royalist Hotel is a great base to head out and explore the rest of the Cotswold's villages on a cheap weekend break.
The Cotswolds should be explored by car and parking at The Royalist Hotel is free, but if you do need to use public transport, the nearest train station is Kingham which sits on the Oxford-Hereford line, served by First Great Western trains. Buses run between villages but if you don't have a car, taxi is the best way to visit the surrounding area.
Attractions in the area, apart from the invigorating country walks (visit Escape To The Cotswolds for details on the footpaths and cycle trails to enjoy), include the Cotswold Motoring Museum & Toy Collection, Model Village in Bourton-on-the-Water and the Winchombe Railway Museum, all perfect to keep children entertained if you're visiting with the family.
For those in need of a relaxing break, 20km down the road on the outskirts of Cheltenham, a half spa day at the Cheltenham Park Hotel including a 30 minute treatment, lunch and full use of the spa facilities (including indoor swimming pool, steam room, sauna and fitness suite) is £35 per person. Combine it with an afternoon of shopping and you've got a great girls weekend away.
