Getting To And Around Benalmadena

The journey from Malaga airport to Benalmadena takes about 15 minutes by car or between 20-30 minutes by coach transfer depending on the number of other hotels you stop at along the way. So it's pretty quick and easy and is an obvious choice for families who don't like long airport transfer times. If you're on a budget, you can also take a public bus to the centre of Benalmadena from the airport which will take around 30 minutes.

Once you're in Benalmadena, it's easy to get around the centre but it does stretch out a little, so you might want to take the bus or get taxis if you're heading further afield. Most of the time though you'll be fine with a bit of walking. Mobility scooters are plentiful and easy to hire. During peak times like the summer school holidays, it might be worth booking this in advance so you can make sure you get one.

If you want to explore the coast a bit, you can easily hire a car for a day or two. You can do this in advance, or simply speak to your hotel staff who can help you find a local car hire provider.

Things To Do In Benalmadena

There are plenty of things to do in Benalmadena which is why this is such a popular holiday resort on the Costa Del Sol. Being in Benalmadena, you're equidistant to the waterparks in Torremolinos and Fuengirola which are both fun days out, as well as close to Benalmadena Marina with its bars and restaurants dotted along the waterfront. Buses are a great option for this, or taxis can also get you there if you're a family or small group.

Sadly, Tivoli World, a mini amusement park closed down in 2020 during Covid but there is plenty of other things to do. Then of course, you've the miles and miles of beaches. From Playa de la Carihuela north of the Marica to Playa Arroyo de la Miel, whether you've got a pool or not, a holiday in Benalmadena is never complete without a trip to the beach. Being a port town, you can also enjoy a number of boat and catamaran trips out, and if you're a group, you can even charter a boat too. Dolphin watching is definitely a must during your stay.

Benalmadena comes alive at night, with plenty of restaurants and bars to keep you busy and full. Plaza Solymar, close to the port and marina is a popular spot for nightlife, especially for a younger crowd. The marina also has some great bars and is seen as a bit more upmarket.

Where To Stay In Benalmadena

Benalmadena can be more livelier than other areas along the Costa del Sol, so you'll want to pick the right hotel for you, whether that's a family friendly resort with lots of facilities, like the TUI's Holiday Village Costa Del Sol resort, or more of an adults only like the Medplaya Hotel Riviera along the Avenida Antonio Machado, and just steps from Benalmadena beach.

The closer you are to the beach, the more you can expect to pay, although it's very affordable. Globales Los Patos Park is a family favourite that's close to the beach. Sol Puerto Marina is a budget friendly option north of the marina. And Hotel Palmasol is right in the heart of all the action.
