Swimming Pools

There are multiple pool options at TUI BLUE Angora Beach, which is an impressive spread for a hotel of 115 rooms. The main outdoor pool is 35 metres long and the social heart of the hotel. The relax pool at the quieter end of the resort has an in-pool bar and a genuinely calmer atmosphere for those who want to read or simply sit without music. The Beach

The beach is just five metres from the hotel and part of the Gümüldür seafront promenade. The sea here is the clear Aegean blue that this part of Turkey is known for. The beach itself is a mix of sand and shingle with some stones in places, so bathing shoes are worth packing. Sun loungers, parasols, changing facilities and beach showers are included. The promenade itself is a pleasant place to walk in the early morning or evening, extending for a considerable distance in both directions.

At its peak the city held around 50,000 inhabitants and what remains is extraordinary: the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre which seated 25,000 people, the Temple of Hadrian, the Terrace Houses with their intact mosaics and frescoes, and much more besides. The House of the Virgin Mary, where Saint John is believed to have brought Mary after the crucifixion, is located nearby. TUI organises excursions to Ephesus from the hotel. Book through the TUI rep or at reception on arrival. Go early in the morning before the tour groups arrive if possible.

Alacati

Around 45 minutes from the hotel, Alacati is one of the most beautiful small towns on the Turkish Aegean coast: a maze of narrow streets lined with restored stone houses, bougainvillea, independent boutiques, excellent restaurants and lively cafes. It is world-famous in windsurfing and kitesurfing circles thanks to the reliable winds in the bay. For those with no interest in watersports, the town itself is reason enough to visit. An afternoon here followed by dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants is a perfect day out from the hotel.

Sigacik and the Ancient City of Teos

Just a short drive from Gümüldür, the small harbour town of Sigacik is a lovely half day out. The Ottoman castle walls run down to the waterfront and the harbour is full of fishing boats and small restaurants. Nearby, the ruins of the ancient city of Teos sit in an olive grove and are accessible and interesting without being as overwhelming as Ephesus. A good option for a quieter morning of culture and fresh fish for lunch.

The Promenade and Gümüldür Coast

The beachfront promenade extends for a considerable distance in both directions from the hotel and is one of the most enjoyable free things about staying here. The early morning walk before the heat builds, or the evening stroll as the light fades over the Aegean, are part of what makes this hotel feel genuinely restful rather than just comfortable.

Izmir

Turkey's third city and one of its most underrated is around 60 minutes from the hotel. The Kemeralti Bazaar is one of the great covered markets in Turkey. The Kordon waterfront promenade is lined with excellent cafes and restaurants. The Agora of Smyrna and the hilltop Kadifekale castle offer history. For a full day in a proper Turkish city with none of the tourist infrastructure of Istanbul, Izmir is excellent.

Boat Trips

Local boat trips operate from Gümüldür and the surrounding coast, exploring coves and bays that are inaccessible from land. The crystal-clear water of the Turkish Aegean makes these particularly enjoyable for swimming stops. The hotel reception or TUI rep can advise on the best options.

Getting Here

TIzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) is approximately 41 kilometres away, around 60 minutes by road. Direct flights operate from London Gatwick and other UK airports. A TUI package will typically include airport transfers from Izmir. The hotel is not served by Bodrum Airport. For those wanting to explore the coast independently, a hire car opens up the surrounding area significantly.
