Parkdean Landguard holiday park is one of the company's smaller parks with fewer than 150 caravans within the park. It's located near the popular seaside resort of Shanklin, on the Isle of Wight, just a ten minute walk from Shanklin station. The park is in a relaxed, lovely setting with a woodland feel, friendly staff and a real feeling of being on holiday.
Offering a variety of facilities and activities including an indoor and outdoor (open during summer months) pool, entertainment programme and outdoor playground, Landguard is a favourite with many families looking for a low cost family holiday. Guests at Landguard can also use the facilities at the nearby Parkdean Lower Hyde holiday park.
Landguard Park Facilities
As with most Parkdean resorts, Landguard features an indoor heated swimming pool with flume slide and water activities so you can splash around, year round. The park also features a heated outdoor pool too which is open from late May through to early September each year, so you can also enjoy splashing around outdoors in the sunshine during the summer months.
The two kids clubs are led by the infamous Parkdean Star Krew. Star Tots is the Club for children under 5, with activities likes story time, and fun games, while the Star Landers Club offers plenty of fun and adventure for children between 5 and 10 years old.
Other activities on site include the outdoor adventure playground with swings and slides when the weathers good. There's also plenty of fun to be had at the indoor amusement arcade with modern racing games and traditional family favourite arcade machines.
One of the great aspects of Landguard is that guests can also head next door to Lower Hyde Holiday Park and also enjoy the facilities there including the outdoor pool and entertainment.
Throughout your break the Parkdean Troupers are on hand to keep the family entertained both during the day and in the evening while on holiday. The Jesters Family Club within the entertainment complex offers relaxed evening entertainment, with the Oasis Sports Bar offering a place to relax and have a drink throughout the day and into the night. A livelier entertainment offering may be available at nearby Lower Hyde.
Full details of what's on during the day and evening, including any live entertainment will be available in your welcome pack when you arrive. If booking through Breakfree Holidays or using the Sun Holiday Codes promotion, make sure that entertainment passes are included in the price of your holiday, otherwise you can buy them when you arrive.
Food and Restaurants
For those times when you just don't fancy cooking, the Granary Restaurant in the main entertainment complex serves up delicious family favourites, from burgers and steaks to yummy desserts. The dedicated kids menu will please the little ones with smaller portions of dishes like fish and chips, pasta and pancakes. There's also a handy takeaway on site so you can eat in.
There is an Aldi and a Morrison's supermarket ten minutes down the road so it's easy to stock up on food if you're self catering, however there's also a convenient Nisa mini supermarket on site for any essentials you might have forgotten.
There's also a launderette on site if you need it, although some upgraded lodges do have a washing machine installed.
WiFi is available throughout the park.
Please note: The outdoor pool is open from 24th May to 2nd September.
Accommodation at Landguard is a mix of two and three bedroom caravans and lodges which can sleep up to eight people. Wheelchair friendly accommodation is also available. If required, make sure you request this at the time of booking.
While the lead in caravans are cosy and comfortable, guests can choose to upgrade at the time of booking to include things like central heating and double glazing, extra wide caravans and pet friendly caravans and lodges. Dogs can be added on to your booking in certain accommodation types for an additional £25 per dog. Hot tubs may also be available in some of the lodges.
Camping and touring caravan pitches are also available with electric hook-up points at each pitch. Pitches can also be booked online in advance to avoid disappointment.
Example accommodation types at the park are:
The Plum Caravan is the lead-in accommodation type at Landguard. With a TV and fire in the lounge and heating in the bedrooms, as well as fitted kitchen with fridge, gas cooker and microwave, this caravan type is the budget friendly option for a great family holiday.
The extra-wide, two bedroom Maple Caravan is a fantastic upgrade option for families. Sleeping up to six people, this accommodation type includes central heating, double glazing and flatscreen TV, as well as a fully fitted kitchen with fridge freezer and gas oven.
The cheapest lodge at Landguard is the Sessile Lodge, a family friendly, three bedroom property with pet friendly units available. It's a great upgrade option for guests needing more space and wanting to enjoy time on the veranda.
The Rowan Lodge is one of the top lodge types in the park. A modern unit with a more luxurious feel, the Rowan Lodge is a family favourite offering luxuries like a dishwasher, washer dryer, TV with soundbar and outdoor veranda with garden furniture.
Things To Do Near Cayton Bay Holiday Park
The popular Shanklin beach is a 25 minute walk or a 5 minute drive from Landguard Holiday Park. This sandy stretch of the Isle of Wight coast is perfect for enjoying time by the sea in the summer or long, sea view walks along the Esplanade at any time of the year. From Small Hope Beach all the way up to Sandown Pier is a fantastic Sunday afternoon walk to enjoy.
Pirates cove and Jurassic Bay Adventure Golf
Down along Shanklin seafront is Pirates Cove and Jurassic Bay Adventure Golf, a centre with a range of activities on offer including the 18 hole dinosaur themed mini golf course and the 18 hole pirate themed crazy golf and is open daily. The Pirates Cove fun park also features mini go-karts, trampolines and bouncy castle in summer, as well as the Pirates Cove runaway train. For bad weather days, there's also Jungle Jim's next door, an indoor soft play area with slides, ball pools and cafe.
Isle of Wight Zoo
A ten minute drive from the park is the Isle of Wight Zoo, a family favourite, further up the coast in Yaverland. Here, the whole family can learn more about animals from around the world, whether farmyard animals or more exotic types like tigers, monkeys and snakes. You can also plan your day around various talks and presentations.
Ticket prices start from £36.55 for a family ticket (two adults and two children)
Dinosaur Isle is an interactive museum to discover more about the local area and the history around the animals that used to roam the planet. Open daily throughout the year (except a few dates in December and January). Family tickets start from £16.50 and there are also public, guided fossil walks at sites of interest on the island.
The park is small, surrounded by woods so there's a very relaxed feel within the resort. While there are a number of great facilities, during peak school holidays areas like the swimming pool can get busy and the changing facilities might be considered a little small for some people. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the caravans are all of a very good standard.
No cars are allowed to park up by the mobile homes so the main car park is by reception. This makes the park a much nicer place to spend time.
