The resort of Portimao on the Algarve's western end has more of an urban, local town feel than a holiday resort. But that that does mean are some fantastic, budget friendly apartments and villas for rent, with plenty of local supermarkets, restaurants and bars. You'll find that many hotels in Portimao are self contained so you can just sit by the pool and relax on holiday.
Getting To, From & Around Portimao
Roughly a 50 minute drive from Faro Airport, Portimao is one of the furthest resorts from the airport but that can also help to bring down hire prices. A taxi will cost in the region of about €70. A coach shuttle will be a cheaper option, however it will take longer to get there due to the additional stops to drop off other holidaymakers enroute.
