Getting To and Around Vilamoura

Getting To And Around Vilamoura

If you're enjoying a holiday to Vilamoura, you'll fly into Faro airport which is a 30 minute drive from the town, (about €35 each way in a taxi) making it one of the more convenient resorts in the Algarve. Most of the main and regional airports, like Newcastle, Southampton and Leeds Bradford, have direct flights to Faro, mainly during the summer months (if you are planning on visiting Portugal during the winter, there may be limited options because it's out of the typical holiday season).

Coach Transfers

Pre-organised coach transfers are another great option, which may also be included within the cost of your holiday depending on who you book with. Coach transfers may take a little longer due to the extra stops en-route but can be a much more affordable way to get to your hotel.

Car Hire

Hiring a car is a great option if you want to explore the Algarve. You can book in advance through a variety of partners and pick up the car at the airport, or you could also organise car hire in Vilamoura like around the marina or at selected hotels.

Public Transport

Taking the bus is an option, however you'll need to take a bus into Faro town and change at the bus station, before heading on to Vilamoura. The cost is just a few Euros but is a bit of lengthy journey, especially if you are travelling with young children and luggage.

Tour Operators

All of the big UK tour operators like TUI, Jet2holidays, easyJet Holidays and Hays Travel offer ABTA and ATOL protected package holidays to Vilamoura. If you have certain flights in mind with Jet2 or another holiday airline, it may be cheaper to book your package directly through their website (as they often offer bigger discounts to customers flying on their flight).

What's included within flight inclusive holidays can vary from company to company, so always check to see what is and isn't included. Parts of your trip like airport transfers and board basis upgrades may need to be added on at an extra cost.

Many come to Vilamoura for beach holidays and to simply enjoy the pool and sunshine, but there's plenty to do around here if you need to break up your holiday with a few activities. A trip to the beach should be on your list as there's plenty of space and soft sand to play in, but for a fun-filled family day out, make sure to head to a water park!

The marina is also a great place to spend some time, looking at the boats, enjoying a few drinks and a bite to eat, as well as seeing what boat trips are on offer. It's here you'll also find some of the nightlife. There's everything from dolphin watching to parasailing so you’ve got plenty of choice. And if you're a keen golfer, there are several courses to choose from.

Golf

The Algarve is well known for its excellent golf courses which makes Vilamoura an ideal spot for golfers. With plenty of courses within a short drive, like Dom Pedro Old Course, Pine Cliffs and Vale do Lobo, plus just a short distance to bars, restaurants and nightlife, it's easy to see why it's so popular here.

Roman Ruins

For something a little different and unexpected, take a wander to Cerro da Vila Roman ruins. This small site is home to a museum detailing some of the history of the area, as well as the fascinating remains of a Roman village.

Exploring Other Beaches

The Algarve has some of the most incredible beaches in Europe. Soft golden sand, quiet coves and sprawling beachfronts mean you shouldn't just stick to the one nearest your hotel. Jump in a taxi or hire car and head along the coast to discover some of the most alluring beaches in Portugal. Take a look at places like Praia da Falesia nearby, Praia de Vale Lobo, or head further away and explore the beaches and caves around Benagil.
