Getting to, from and around Praia Da Rocha

With direct flights from across the UK into Faro. It's relatively easy to get to the Algarve region. And close to Portimao, Praia da Rocha is about a 50 minute drive from Faro airport or a bit longer if you're taking an airport transfer/shuttle of some sort. Hire car or coach transfers are usually going to be your best options and brands like TUI and Jet2holidays may already include your airport transfer as part of your package.

Once in Praia da Rocha you'll have all you need here with supermarkets, bars and restaurants close by. And for anything else, Portimao is a short trip away. If you plan on exploring the coast, hiring a car is your best option. This can be done either in advance and pick up from the airport or there are one or two car hire places locally you might be able to use.

Things to do in Praia Da Rocha

Praia da Rocha Beach

You might want to spend all of your time in your hotel or resort, especially if you're on an all inclusive holiday, but the golden sand beach is one of the biggest draws for a holiday in Praia da Rocha. Expansive with soft sand, it's the ideal way to spend the day in the sunshine and periodically dipping your toes in the sea to cool down.

Active Holidays

If you prefer a more active holiday, there's also plenty to do. For golfers, the beautiful Alto Golf course is a short drive away, while basketball and volleyball is also available on the beach. Water sports can also be booked locally.

If you want more activities, you'll need to head out of town, either up to Portimao and it's marina, or to some of the other attractions along this part of the Western Algarve. Try Slide and Splash, for example, located a 15 minute drive away on the outskirts of Lagoa. It's a fun water park and a great way to spend some time out of the hotel with the family.

Food And Drink

Don't forget to try out some of the local bars and restaurants while you're visiting, including a few beachfront eateries which are dotted along the promenade. If you're going self catering, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes in and around the main area, serving up a mix of both local Portuguese and international cuisine, as well as a couple of mini supermarkets and shops to grab some groceries too.

Nightlife

This part of the Algarve isn't the best known for its nightlife (especially if you're hoping for late night bars and night clubs, however, there are still plenty of places to enjoy some evening entertainment along Avenida Tomas Cabreira, the main street in the town.

Boat Trips

When staying here, you won't actually be that far from Portimao which has a marina and port. Boat trips out to see the local area, including dolphin watching and to see the dramatic rock formations along the coast, can be organised in advance. Your hotel staff may also be able to recommend one to you if you haven't booked a tour by the time you arrive.
