Getting to, from and around Los Gigantes

The closest airport is Tenerife South airport, and by taxi, Los Gigantes is a 40 minute drive from the airport. If you're booking a flight and hotel package, it can often be worth adding in airport transfers, especially if you plan to spend all of your time in the resort. Expect a coach transfer to take a little longer as it will stop at other hotels along the way.

If you do want to explore the island, for a big night out, a taxi from Los Gigantes to Playa de las Americas costs around €15-20 each way. Bus services do run down the coast to Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos, however, they aren't as frequent up to this part of the island. One of the best ways to travel around and explore the island is by hiring a car. Los Gigantes is a little out of the way so places like Masca, Siam Park, Playa de las Americas and other parts of the island.

Tour Operators

When booking, most of the big ABTA and ATOL protected tour operators like Expedia, loveholidays and TUI offer holidays to Los Gigantes, packaging up with a range of flights including Ryanair, Jet2, easyJet and British Airways. With tour operators like TUI and Jet2holidays who package up accommodation with their own flights, you'll usually find that things like a check-in luggage allowance and airport transfers are included within the price, but it's always worth checking what's included before you book.

Things to do in Los Gigantes

Los Gigantes is a very relaxed part of Tenerife with a couple of things to see, like the Charco de Isla Cangrejo which is a pleasant natural swimming pool next to the coast. A trip over the mountains to the quaint and impressive town of Masca should absolutely not be missed, especially if you love a good hike. Alternatively, the steep walk up to Mirador Archipenque offers beautiful views of the surrounding area, including the Los Gigantes cliffs, Puerto de Santiago, and out to the Atlantic Ocean and over to the island of La Gomera.

You can book all the top attractions on Tenerife from your hotel, some of which offer pick up services from your hotel either free of charge or for a small fee.

Beach

Because of its location against the cliffs, Playa de los Guios beach, the main beach here, doesn't get sunny until much later in the day, so be prepared for shaded mornings on the beach. It's a black sand beach with sun loungers for hire. Alternatively, you can venture down to the small beaches at Playa de Santiago, or Playa de la Arena, which are both Tenerife's famous black sand.

Boat Trips

For something adventurous, take a wander down to Los Gigantes marina for a bite to eat and check out the boat tours and diving experiences on offer. Ranging from dolphin watching day trips to sea kayaking along the cliffs, there are some interesting options to try out. Did you know you can see both bottlenose dolphins and whales off the coast of Tenerife, one of the best places in Spain?

Explore The Island

Other excursions you could try out include heading up Teide National Park to see the mighty volcano and lava fields, heading down to Costa Adeje and spending the day at the world's best rated water park Siam Park, or exploring the small coastal villages to enjoy some fresh Spanish tapas at a local restaurant by the marina.

Where to stay in Los Gigantes

There are a few hotel options to enjoy, ranging from the four-star adults only TUI BLUE Los Gigantes to budget friendly, self catering apartments in the hills, making holidays to Los Gigantes very affordable. Many of the hotels in the area have sea view rooms which are well worth upgrading to. And don't worry if your apartment doesn't have a pool. The Charco de Isla Cangrejo natural swimming pool and Oasis Swimming Pool are great ways to spend the day. And for a fun-filled day out, families love Siam Park water park in Costa Adeje!

The main commercial centre with bars, restaurants and shops is around Parroquia del Espiritu Santo, a small church on a square in the heart of town. But it's worth noting that many of the private holiday apartments (if you choose to book your accommodation separately through the likes of Airbnb or Booking.com), are usually further up in the hills, which can mean steep walks back after an evening out. Therefore, if you do have walking difficulties or will be pushing a buggy, you might find it a bit of a struggle.
