A Guide To Hotels In Tenerife
Whether you're in Tenerife to explore the volcanic national parks, or simple away on holiday to spend some much needed me time by the pool, your hotel in Tenerife needs to be right for you. The range of accommodation varies greatly from 2-star budget friendly hotels, to 5-star luxury resorts so make sure you do your research on what area of the island you plan on staying in.
Going all-inclusive is a great option when staying in Tenerife. Sometimes you really just don't want to have to worry about extra spending money when you're on holiday. Many hotels in Tenerife offer half board and all-inclusive options, allowing you to eat and drink all day. Local alcoholic drinks are usually included but premium brands may not be, or you may also be able to upgrade the cost to have them included.
All inclusive hotels in Playa de Las Americas such as the H10 Las Palmiras Hotel, Villa Mandi and Compostela Beach Golf Apartments, offer great choice when staying in Tenerife, with several of the hotels offering free waterpark access to Siam Park.
Hotels in Playa de las Americas
Playa de las Americas often comes to mind when planning a trip to Tenerife. Hotels in las Americas are usually in the thick of things with easy access to bars, restaurants and the beach. Hotels like the H10 Conquistador and Sol Tenerife sit along the Calle Francisco Andrade Fumero which is the main stretch of beach promenade in Playa de las Americas and is a good location if Las Americas is for you.
Central to the area between Las Americas and Troya beaches you'll find a famous stretch of bars, Veronica's Strip. The area comes alive at night when the neon lights shine and welcome you in with plenty of drinks offers and promises of strong hangovers. If you want to be close to the main nightlife in Tenerife, choosing a hotel in Playa de las Americas could be a good option.
Hotels in the Costa Adeje
A little north of Las Americas and you'll reach Costa Adeje, a popular area to stay with plenty of branded hotels ranging from budget 2-star to the high end 5-star hotels. Marketed as a bit more upmarket, you'll generally find that hotels in Costa Adeje are well contained offering half board and all-inclusive options to keep you in-resort, as well as a huge list of activities and facilities if lounging by the pool isn't enough.
Staying in the Costa Adeje, you'll be close to Tenerife's two main waterparks, Siam Park, voted the best waterpark in the world in TripAdvisors Travellers' Choice Awards, and Aqualand. Several hotels in Adeje like Best Jacaranda Hotel and Tagoro Hotel have offers of free entry to Siam Park when staying with them so make sure you compare the latest hotel offers.
Best Hotels in Tenerife
The best hotels in Tenerife can often be the ones you least expect. You would naturally think that a five-star hotel would top the list but according to customers on TripAdvisor, the four-star Cleopatra Palace Hotel, located next to Playa del Camison in the south of Las Americas, has been rated the best hotel in Tenerife. And it's quite clear why. Friendly staff, excellent dining and a warm welcoming environment, and of course being next to the beach and close to bars and restaurants always helps too.
Then you've got the GF Gran Costa Adeje hotel. Set back from the coast about a ten minute walk to the beach, the GF Gran Costa Adeje has been rated one of the best in Tenerife, particularly for its adults only, rooftop pool. Clean, comfortable rooms with king sized beds, good food, two good sized other swimming pools and facilities to shower and change if you arrive early and can't check in or are taking a late flight home.
Budget Friendly Hotels
Tenerife is also a very budget friendly holiday destination. Hotels here can vary in price but you'll always be able to find a variety of hotels on the lower end of the budget. Two-star hotels and apartments offer a very basic level of comfort but there is a good range of three-star hotels in Tenerife that will keep the cost of your holiday down, without you having to make too many compromises.
Head away from the bright lights of Playa de las Americas to the smaller towns dotted around the island and you'll pick up some great hotel deals. For example, the Grand Muthu Golf Plaza Hotel and Spa is located in the much quieter resort of Golf del Sur, a popular spot for expats buying holiday homes, yet still within walking distance of several restaurants and quieter bars and a 20 minute drive into Las Americas if you really need the buzzing nightlife.
Or head right up and round the island, taking in Tenerife's dramatic scenery before staying at the likes of the Sol Puerto de la Cruz. It's distance from Tenerife Sur airport and slightly more tropical climate may put some off, but this means lower nightly rates than some of Tenerife's more popular hotel locations.
5-Star Hotels in Tenerife
There are loads of five-star hotels in Tenerife, like the fabulous Hard Rock hotel in La Caleta, Costa Adeje, or the impressive Ritz Carlton in Guia de Isora. If your budget allows it, upgrading to a better rated hotel is often a good option, although be sure to figure out where you want to stay.
The Ritz Carlton and Gran Melia Palacio de Isora are two of Tenerife's finest hotels but are self contained complexes further up the coast from the livelier resorts, so don't expect to be heading out clubbing if you're planning on enjoying a luxury stay up in this area of Tenerife.
At the same time, there are a number of popular five-star resorts dotted along the Costa Adeje which allows you more options for heading out and enjoying some local tasty tapas. Try the 5-star Riu Palace Hotel, which offers a resort style stay but only 10 minute walk to local bars, restaurants and Plaza del Duque shopping centre.
